Mind-Body Interventions

We offer a selection of mind-body therapeutic interventions that focuses on bringing about cohesion of mind and body, guiding the mind towards equilibrium and the body to a state of harmony, physiologically.

Modalities include:

Physiological Biofeedback

A technique whereby a trainee monitors his/her physiological signals from the autonomic nervous system including the heart, muscles, lungs, etc. using sensors and actively makes adjustments to his physiological processes and mental, emotional state to improve self-regulation.

Brain Optimax offers the following physiological biofeedback modalities:

Respiration/Breath-work

Trainees learn proper diaphragmatic breathing technique using sensors and strain gauges.

Respiration biofeedback offers a number of benefits and has widespread application as a stress reduction technique and to attain a state of calm.

Surface Electromyography (sEMG)

Is the monitoring and self-regulation of muscle tension as a means to alleviate chronic pain and anxiety associated with tension.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

HRV is a technique that aims to increase the variability of the heart to bring about sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest, digest) system balance.

This technique confers numerous health benefits and is particularly beneficial with conditions such as asthma, anxiety, hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome.

Peripheral Temperature

Peripheral temperature training provides feedback on surface/skin temperature via a monitor that helps trainee learn to maintain a general state of relaxation or to alleviate migraine headache or symptoms associated with Raynaud’s Disease.

Skin Conductance (Galvanic Skin Response)

Skin conductance measures changes in arousal as evidenced by changes in the sweat gland activity.

These changes are very fast, responds to thoughts, perceptions and are a great way to learn self-regulation of attention and control of negative thoughts.
